Iconic Paris, the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre
Paris is such a vibrant, stylish, historic city, there is so much to see! Probably to most iconic location is the Eiffel Tower, which was originally built to mark the centennial of the French Revolution and is the most visited paid monument in the world. You can stand on the stunning observation deck and stare in to the distance, knowing you are atop one of the most famous landmarks in Europe.
The stunning glass pyramid of the Louvre is another monument that is immediately recognizable. The gallery is one of the most famous and most visited in the world, with exhibits from Egyptian mummies to Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.
The Louvre is merely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the stunning museums of Paris. The Musee d’Orsay is set in a stunning location in a former train station on the banks of the Seine and is filled with magnificent paintings and sculptures, with the works of Renoir, Cezanne and Monet all under one roof.
Sites to see in Paris
This brings us nicely on to two of the most stunning sights in Paris, The Notre Dame Cathedral and The Arc De Triomphe. The former is the home of huge stunning archways, stained glass, unique spires and gothic gargoyles – a truly inspiring behemoth that will take your breath away.
The latter is the link between old and new Paris, a stunning arch commissioned by Napoleon and adorned with the names of 558 generals carefully crafted in to its artistic designs. The Arc de Triomphe is both a symbol of French military history and also a key icon and bookmark of Paris.
New Paris is represented similarly by La Defense, which has a gigantic modern arch at its centre. A business estate by day becomes a spectacle of lights at night and is one of the perfect places to take a stroll in the dark. With restaurants and shopping at Quatre Temps, you will be in your element.
There is so much to see in Paris that even the standard elements of a holiday such as food, drink and nightlife blur in to the spectacular. For the romance and seduction of Paris, you can head to the Moulin Rouge, where you will find a replica of the iconic red windmill, as well as the evening cancan performance, a seductive spectacle that will take you back to the era of turn of the century Paris. Not a night out to take the kids on!
Away from the hustle and bustle, the white Sacre Coeur on Montmatre Hill is one of the most beautiful landmarks of Paris. Built in 1875, it stands at the second highest point in the city (after the Eiffel tower!) and is a real symbol of spirituality and purity. From here you can take in the stunning architecture, walk the cobbled backstreets and enjoy some of the most wonderful views of Paris.
