It is through this village that the parklands of the Chatsworth Estate are accessed, and it’s situated on the banks of the delightful River Derwent. The stunning Chatsworth Park is accessed directly from the village over the beautiful 17th Century Packhorse Bridge and makes for a wonderful day out for all the family with plenty to explore and discover, including the house, beautiful gardens, farmyard, playground and exhibition spaces. Mary Queen of Scots stayed at the stately home several times during the 1570s, and her quarters, which became known as the Mary Queen of Scots rooms, are now one of the most popular features of the house.

If you are looking for something more active, there are plenty of beautiful walks and cycle routes that can be accessed directly from the village, and the market town of Bakewell is just a short drive away. Located in the centre of Bakewell, this stunning property is just a short stroll away from all the hustle and bustle of the main town. Bakewell offers a selection of wonderful boutique shops and local museums as well as a delightful selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants, so there is plenty to keep you busy without even leaving the town.

For the active members of your group, there are plenty of walking trails and cycle routes that can be accessed directly from the property. You can also do some potholing or rock climbing if you are looking for a little more of an adrenaline boost. There are several nearby golf courses for those who prefer their activities to be slightly less terrifying though! A calming visit to the stunning Chatsworth House or the nearby Haddon Hall will also be well worth it.

Facilities: Corner Cottage is a characterful and cosy semi-detached cottage that can accommodate up to six people, sleeping in three bedrooms. It is also dog friendly, making it the ultimate holiday home for the whole family – four-legged friends included! The cottage dates back to the 1880s but has been sympathetically restored and has kept much of its original features, including a lovely wood burning stove and beautiful stone mullion windows. The property has three bedrooms that can all be king-size doubles or twins, making this a flexible option for larger families or groups of friends. There is a lovely sitting room with a comfortable seating area that leads into a formal dining area with a table, perfect for hosting a dinner party or two. On the outskirts of the picture perfect village of Rowsley, just a few miles from the charming towns of Bakewell and Matlock, you’ll find this lovely self-catering stone-built cottage. The wonderful stately home of Chatsworth Park is just three miles away, where you can spend the day exploring the spectacular staterooms, including where Mary Queen of Scots stayed. There are scenic gardens to explore as well as a farmyard, a playground and a superb exhibition space.

If you are looking to be a little more active on your holiday, you can head to the nearby Carsington Water which is a lovely spot for partaking in water sports such as canoeing, windsurfing and kayaking. It’s also the perfect spot for horse riding, cycling or fishing. Hunker down for a lovely picnic by the water, and keep your eyes peeled for a spot of birdwatching. The wonderful steppingstones at Dovedale are also just a short drive from the property and equally well worth a visit during your stay. Keen cyclists will love the location too, as the cottage sits at the base of Rowsley Bar, which is listed in the top 100 climbs in Britain.
