goodalls

Goodalls

Location: Chale near Niton, Isle of Wight

Great for: A stay in an idyllic thatched cottage

If you want to reconnect with the countryside and experience rural life this holiday, you may as well do it properly and book a stay in this picture-perfect thatched cottage.

Dating back to 1552, the cosy and traditional property has a very homey atmosphere, and there’s even a wood burning stove in the sitting room – ideal for a family night in.

You’ll be staying near plenty of lovely beaches such as Monks Bay and Originals Beach, while families with kids will love Blackgang Chine, one of the UK’s oldest theme parks.

Looking for more idyllic cottages? Why not check out these 7 Log Cabin Holidays too.

Facilities: This historic Isle of Wight home sleeps seven guests, so would be great for larger families or groups of friends. There is a ground floor bedroom and a further three upstairs, with two bathrooms. There’s a beautiful garden with a patio to sit out on, and off-road space to park outside the house. This accommodation allows pets, but will only accept one per booking. Currently there’s good last minute availability – which is lucky considering how lovely this property is!

distant shores

Distant Shores

Location: Ventnor, Isle of Wight

Great for: A stylish apartment with sea views

This stunning luxury holiday apartment gets consistently glowing reviews, and it’s not hard to see why. Decorated very stylishly, and with gorgeous sea views, you’ll have a calm and relaxing last minute getaway at this grand Victorian property.

The coastal apartment sleeps four guests, with a double bedroom and a twin bedroom, but would also be perfect for a romantic couple’s retreat. The apartment features a balcony, with a view to die for, and you’ll love sitting out with your other half with a glass of wine as the sun sets over the island.

The first floor apartment is located in Ventor, and you’ll be staying within a short walk of the town’s Michelin star restaurants – go on, you deserve it!

Facilities: We don’t know if you’ll ever want to leave this bright and airy Isle of Wight apartment… With two bedrooms, a living/dining space, and a kitchen tucked to the side, the apartment has everything you’ll need for your stay. There are no pets allowed, and children need to be supervised because of the balcony, but as we said, this would be the ideal place for a last minute retreat for two. There’s even off-road parking for one car, and you’ll be in a great spot from which to explore the island. This property currently has moderate last minute availability, and we would totally recommend jumping on one of the offers pronto.

lisle combe

Lisle Combe Cottage

Location: Ventnor, Isle of Wight

Great for: Secluded cottage life by the sea

Reviewed by one guest as ‘the most authentic cottage’ they have ever stayed in, this delightful stone cottage has to be one of the sweetest properties on the Isle of Wight.

Located between Ventnor and St Lawrence, the cottage is nestled in an extremely peaceful and tranquil area. On top of that, there’s also a fab view of the Solent from the private garden, and you’re bound to love sitting out and enjoying the sun that the Isle of Wight is known for.

Just a 15 minute walk away you’ll find Steephill Cove, which is the perfect spot for an afternoon dip and a picnic on the beach, while there’s a shop and a pub about a mile from the cottage.

Facilities: The property sleeps six guests across three bedrooms, including one double room on the ground floor. The cottage is simply decorated and has a lovely country living feel to it – we would recommend this as a fab choice for the warmer months, when you’ll want to spend a lot of time enjoying the great outdoors (though the accommodation is comfy and cosy).

stable cottage

Stable Cottage

Location: Gatcombe, Isle of Wight

Great for: Green countryside views and additional properties

Located centrally on the island, this stone barn conversion is set on 250 acres of arable farm (crops only) with views over a secluded valley and is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Stable Cottage is a great choice if you want to explore everything the Isle of Wight has to offer – as you’ll be staying pretty much in the middle of everything. Cowes is nine miles away while Ryde is ten miles, and the village of Gatcombe itself is set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Facilities: The self-catering cottage is all ground floor, making this one of the best last minute breaks for guests who cannot take the stairs or have crawling children. This particular property sleeps four people over two bedrooms, but you can always book the additional properties at this site for a larger group – the three cottages sleep 14 in total. You’ll have a private enclosed patio for alfresco dining, though there are no pets allowed, and space to park off road.

burford house

Burford House

Location: Ryde, Isle of Wight

Great for: Seaside grandeur for a large group

Heaven to betsy! We were blown away by this beautiful Georgian villa, located within the conservation area of this coastal town.

With plenty of gorgeous period features, the villa is the ideal backdrop for a hazy summer getaway or a festive winter retreat.

The seaside town of Ryde is full of excellent restaurants & pubs, and has an amazing six miles of sandy beach. As it’s the biggest town on the Isle of Wight, you’ll be in a great location from which to explore without a car – the Ryde train and bus station are close by, as are ferry links.

For even more indulgent inspo, here’s a roundup of 7 Last Minute Hot Tub Holidays

Facilities: This large four-floor property has six bedrooms and sleeps 12 guests, making it the best cottage for large parties. The villa has been decorated to a high and tasteful standard, plus there’s a large private garden with furniture and a BBQ (though no pets allowed). The villa is already getting very booked up further down the line, so we don’t expect these last minute deals to stay around for long.

the old kitchens

The Old Kitchens

Location: Totland Bay, Isle of Wight

Great for: Ground floor living in a beautiful old stone cottage

If you’re looking for an amazing, characterful cottage but need it to be set out over the ground floor, this is the property for you.

The open plan living space has been decorated in a stylish mint colour (can they come do our house too, please?) and has a fab log burning stove. With two bedrooms, the cottage sleeps four in total and would be the perfect place for a family retreat.

The Old Kitchens is within walking distance of the magnificent Needles Headland, which is well worth a visit, and you’ll find plenty of top notch pubs and shops in the lovely village of Totland.

Facilities: With the village pubs within easy reach, you could treat yourself to dinner out or make use of the self-catering facilities at home. Pets are allowed at this property (one well-behaved dog) and there is an enclosed decking area from which you can sit out in the garden and appreciate the romantic view out towards the Needles. It’s not often that last minute offers are available on this Isle of Wight holiday home, so get booking stat!

star board

Starboard

Location: Yarmouth, Isle of Wight

Great for: A romantic open plan studio right by the sea

Want to be near the sea on holiday? How about a stay right on the beach? In fact you can probably see the sea while lying in bed!

This open plan studio for two is ideal for a romantic last minute getaway, and goodness knows you deserve it. Set over the ground floor, the studio is simple but you’ll still find everything you could need.

Located on the site of a former boathouse, you’ll be within a few steps of the sea and only three miles from Compton Bay. If you were looking to book for a big group, there are adjoining cottages that sleep 20 in total, though it is unlikely they’ll all be available for a last minute booking.

If you’re looking for an amazing beach vacation, why not consider a lodge at one of these 9 Great Holiday Parks in Devon and Cornwall?

Facilities: The studio sleeps two and has an open plan living/sleeping arrangement over the ground floor with self-catering facilities. There is a separate shower room on the ground floor, and panoramic views over the sea. Pets are welcome with a well-behaved dog allowed.
