Whitley Bay has beaches with miles of lush golden sands and clean water. South Beach is home to all the usual fairground attractions and boating lakes, whilst Cullercoats Bay is ideal for a family beach trip. Longsands Beach is located only a couple of miles away and is very popular with surfers.
One of the most popular attractions in the area is St Mary's Island and Lighthouse, which is situated across a short tidal causeway. From the lighthouse tower you can take in stunning views of the coast. There's a nature reserve nearby that is home to various species of birds and has child-friendly attractions including rock pool ramble events.

If you are a fan of the arts try Whitley Bay Playhouse, which has a large auditorium of over six hundred seats and a packed programme featuring theatre, music, ballet, dance and comedy. There are performances covering every era.
As somewhere to cool down on a sunny day, Whitley Bay Ice Rink is hugely popular as it's one of only two permanent public ice rinks in the North East. It was once the biggest concert venue in the area, hosting artists including Take That and Oasis.
