Beach bays

Scarborough's two bays - North Bay and South Bay - are separated by a rocky outcrop called the Castle Headland, upon which stands Scarborough Castle. The two bay beaches are both sandy and superb. South Bay in particular has excellent family-friendly facilities and is life-guarded during the summer season.

Castle ruins

Sitting high above the coastline, Scarborough Castle is an imposing presence and one of the finest attractions in the north of England, drenched in the history of Romans, Vikings, kings and conflicts.

Scarborough's spa past remains prominent and the Victorian Spa Complex is home of the famous Scarborough Spa Orchestra, the only remaining resident summer season orchestra left in the UK. They play nine concerts per week during the summer with daytime performances in the idyllic Sun Court Enclosure, which looks out to the sea.

Fleet of fish

The town has a working harbour with a fishing fleet ...try the freshly caught cockles and oysters in one of the many cafes and restaurants... and a marina for yachts and pleasure boats.

Going Japanese

At North Bay is Peasholm Park, a Japanese-themed green space with a tranquil lake where people can hire pedaloes with dragon heads.

Mini rail

A miniature railway runs from North Bay to Scarborough Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary, where visitors can watch an array of sharks, rays, turtles, otters, seals and penguins go about their daily routines. The Seal Rescue Centre shows how the team cares for injured and abandoned seal pups.
