The city of York is simply beautiful, with winding cobbled streets and small independent boutique shops as well as the stunning gothic cathedral, York Minster. York Dungeon is a frightful yet fascinating day out, or there are simpler pleasures to be had exploring the city streets and stopping at the famous Betty's Tea Rooms for tea and cake.
The other city in North Yorkshire is Ripon, one of the smallest cities in England. With over 1300 years of history, Ripon is home to a variety of Viking architecture and Ripon Cathedral, a beautiful building that sits at the heart of the city.
For North Yorkshire's best views, head to the Yorkshire Dales where you will find waterfalls and ancient architecture, with small towns and villages scattered amongst the landscapes. On your travels you are sure to come across historic houses and gardens as well as castles and steam railways.
North York Moors
The North York Moors are a haven for walkers who really want to get to the heart of Yorkshire's historic landscapes. There are oodles of walking trails through jaw-dropping moorlands or, for a longer journey, catch a historic steam train on the Moors' railway.
Coastal Yorkshire should not be overlooked when you are planning a trip to the region. There's Scarborough, home a great family beach and imposing castle ruins, or Whitby with a beautifully picturesque harbour and relaxing beach.
