Morecambe has golden beaches, an award-winning promenade, adrenalin-raising outdoor activities and amazing wildlife - sounds like the perfect holiday destination!
Two parks in Morecambe
Ocean Edge is a cliff-top holiday park on the southern edge of Morecambe Bay. Regent Bay is just a few minutes from Morecambe promenade and beach. Both parks have indoor pools and children's play areas, and the bright lights of Blackpool are around 40 minutes drive.
A gentle stroll along Morecambe's five-mile long promenade has the dual benefit of introducing you to the beachfront while working up a healthy appetite, which can be calmed with a delicious ice cream, fish and chips or picnic on the beach. Head for the statue of comedian Eric Morecambe - his famous skipping pose is guaranteed to raise a smile.
Parents can enjoy the peaceful landscapes of Happy Mount Park while children have a blast at the swing boats, trampolines and splash park.
Art deco highlight
For those interested in design, Morecambe has a distinguished Art Deco heritage. The 1930s Midland Hotel is the centrepiece and there are Art Deco-themed walking tours, including a visit to the Winter Gardens, formerly a grade II listed theatre that once played host to Laurel and Hardy.
Thrill seekers will love Morecambe Bay, which is one of the UK's best spots for high adrenalin sports. Sailing, paragliding, parachuting, wind surfing, mountain biking and horse riding are among the activities available.
Safari so good
For wildlife spotters, Morecambe Bay has many amazing habitats that are home to an array of birds, insects and animals. There are around 30 nature reserves in the area and the estuary is considered one of the most important in Britain for seabirds and waterfowl. The bay's 'big five' to spot are grey seals, otters, red deer, oystercatchers and Pearl Bordered Fritillary butterfly.
Step back in time
Nearby Lancaster is a city with many historic highlights, including Georgian buildings and the 18th century St George's Quay, which dates back to the city's golden age as a port. Williamson Park is a delicious parkland where visitors will find the majestic Ashton Memorial and the exotic Edwardian Butterfly House.
