Cash injection for seaside towns

Holidaymakers in the UK can expect to see a raft of new attractions appearing at seaside towns up and down the country after a £29 million cash injection from Government.

The boost to the Coastal Communities Fund, which was launched in 2012, is a 5% increase on previous levels and will help seaside towns and villages woo new visitors.

A number of innovative projects have already been supported by the fund, including the pioneering National Lobster Hatchery in Cornwall which welcomed 40,000 visitors in the past year.

Other projects that have benefited from help include the historic North York Moors Railways and the award-winning Swanage preserved steam railway which runs for six miles through beautiful scenery and past the magnificent ruins of Corfe Castle.

Boat building on the west coast of Scotland and pier regeneration in South Wales, in the North West and South Coast of England – such as as Clevedon Pier in Somerset (pictured above), which was named Pier of the Year in 2013 – have also been achieved with help from the fund.
